Isn't That The Truth

The Lovely List

I love number 5 and number 6. These are things I don't always think about, but I definitely can do! A crisp outfit, nice make-up and a great (but subtle) fragrance is the perfect feminine combination!

Green and Clean

IMG_3725

With the rain comes everything green and clean! This weekend I slipped on my rain boots and challenged the mud to enjoy clean air and bright green scenery. Filled to the brim, raging rivers offered the perfect soundtrack to the lush and green mountains. My mini-hike made me so thankful for the plentiful rain that rejuvenated the area. I can't wait for sunshine which will give life to wildflowers in April.

A New Decade

IMG_2836

Happy 30th to Jimmy!

I think I'll take a moment to celebrate my age
The ending of an era, and the turning of a page
Now it's time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord, have mercy on my next thirty years

IMG_3404

In my next thirty years
I'm gonna have some fun
Trying to forget about all the crazy things I've done
Maybe now I've conquered all my adolescent fears
And I'll do it better in my next thirty years

IMG_0133

In my next thirty years
I'm gonna settle all the scores
Cry a little less, laugh a little more
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear
Figure out just what I'm doing here, in my next thirty years

IMG_2850

Oh my next thirty years
I'm gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers, huh
Maybe I'll remember my next thirty years

IMG_0829

My next thirty years
Will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here
In my next thirty years

Degustazione Di Vino

IMG_3673

"Tasting the wine" was the highlight of the weekend. Jimmy and I joined our first wine club at our favorite local winery in the hills by our house. After years of enjoying this quaint little tasting room, we decided to make the relationship permanent. Now we can enjoy free tastings, wine parties, and two delicious bottles per quarter. Here are some pretty pictures from our simple wine tasting day.

Isn't That The Truth

Lost Boys of Sudan

On Friday night, I was scrolling through Netflix and stumbled across Lost Boys of Sudan. I was instantly captivated by the movie's trailer about African refugee boys relocating to America. Jimmy and I watched the movie intently; this was literally the first time in ages I wasn't simultaneously on the computer. A few hours after the movie, we were still talking about the acclimation process refugees in America go through. Every once in a while, a story captures your heart and changes your perspective on an otherwise ordinary day, and Lost Boys of Sudan will do just that. I highly recommend it.

Jimmy and I are anxious to get involved and have reached out to our local organization. To get involved or learn more, click here.

Food Friday: Rainy Day Comfort Food

IMG_3585

With all the rain, I have been all about carbs this week. Warm tortellini and rice tacos have really kept me happy every night; however, greens are still essential. And as I've said before, you can't go wrong with spinach. So cozy up Californians and stock up the kitchen. It is going to be an "indoor" kind of weekend.

Bargain Buy: Spring Wedge

$80 vs $365

I've been in love with Stuart Weitman's Alex Espradille Wedge since I saw Jennifer Aniston wearing them last spring. But for $365, I happily passed. I was thrilled when I came across Steve Madden's Fantasik Wedge on Red Vines for Breakfast yesterday. Practically identical, the Fantastik Wedge is only $80, an entire 4x less than the Alex Wedge! This might just be my best find for the spring season.

Artistic Travels

{italy}

I instantly fell in love with these canvas signs created by TransitDesign. You can create your own based on past travels or future dreams. The clean lines and colors bring any white wall to life and are a great conversation piece. After all, isn't art supposed to invoke thought? I am already sketching out all the places I've been, and hope to make one of these mine.

Loads of Hope

"We wash, dry and fold the clothes for these families for free. Because, as we’ve learned, sometimes even the littlest things can make a big, big difference." Loads of Hope Team

If I could spend my time traveling for volunteer work, it would be with Tide's Loads of Hope. I am obsessed with fresh laundry and am an exclusive user of Tide; therefore, I was thrilled when I found out my #1 detergent came up with this genius and life changing model. Clean clothes is something most of us take for granted, but imagine not having access to this necessity. Loads of Hope is literally a moving laundromat that makes clean clothes accessible to victims of natural disasters, and it can do up to 300 loads per day! What is more inspiring than that?

Wow, This Gets You Thinking

I am officially stumped. Is this a no brainer to anyone?

Whole Wheat Banana Muffins

IMG_3639

My cousin gave me this great banana muffin recipe, and this rainy weekend was the perfect time to make them. Fresh bananas, brown sugar and organic whole wheat flour should be enough to motivate the most reluctant baker to break out the spatula. And with only a 20 minute cook time, how could you pass up this perfect breakfast treat. An added bonus is the warm and sweet scent that lingers hours after baking.

Makes about 1 dozen muffins. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

INGREDIENTS
4 to 6 extra ripe bananas
1/4 cup melted margarine
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups organic whole wheat flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
Dash of brown sugar

Mash the bananas in a bowl. Add all of the remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour batter into muffin cups. Sprinkle brown sugar on top. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the muffin comes out clean. *Add walnuts or chocolate as desired.

Did You Know? Spring Equinox

Did you know that this time of year the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are equal in all parts of the world? My family in North Carolina is celebrating by balancing an egg straight up! Can you do this? I just tried and it didn't work here in California, but again I don't have the patience to keep trying.

Let The Rain Come Down

IMG_3002

Laying in bed and listening to the rain is one of my favorite things. We are in for a stormy weekend, and I am extra excited about the possibility of thunderstorms. We don't get these nearly enough in California. Cheers to a guilt-free weekend of lounging around in sweats, earl grey tea, thunderstorms, and bright green hills next week!

Day of Silence

Donate here.

Tomorrow I am joining For Japan With Love and offering a day of blogging silence and donation for the victims. Hopefully you can find a time for silence and/or donation too.

Tiny Charms

There is something about tiny necklace charms that always catch my eye. They are so simple and understated, yet they draw just the right attention to the neckline. They can be worn with any outfit and never get in the way or weigh you down. I was excited when I came across Julie Nolan's collection on Etsy. The rustic metals and unique charms are just the type of pieces that have people asking "where did you get that?"

Love & Strength

Everyday life can seem hectic and sometimes unfair, that is until tragedy strikes. I am sending prayers of love and strength to Japan and all the people suffering right now. Hug those you love and be thankful for what you have, because you just never know.

Donate to the Red Cross here.
