Dear Vogue:

Dear Vogue:

Thank you for a magazine full of captivating images and rich stories. However, I have become increasingly frustrated with the layout; this month especially. I have to page through a tremendous amount of ads (approx. 150 pages) before I get to the first page of content. After finally reaching my favorite read "letter from the editor," I am forced to search for the remainder of the letter among even more ads and unnumbered pages. When I can't even read Anna Wintour's piece without feeling like I am on a treasure hunt, we have a problem. I know ads make money and I like the images, but it would be great if the stories were kept together, especially Anna's piece.

Respectfully,
M

Food Friday: Berries and Cream

IMG_3380

It is that time of year again. Sweet berries are filling my local farmer's market and I am ecstatic. Last weekend I purchased my first batch of raspberries and ate the entire container in one day. It was glorious! This week, I whipped up heavy whipping cream and enjoyed it with fresh blueberries and raspberries. This is my go to dessert for guests because it is delicious, easy and elegant.

Even though we are supposed to get snow tomorrow (yes, in California!), my berry treats make me feel like spring is in the air!

The Splurge: Lululemon

I've officially decided to invest in Lululemon. I've been in love with this line for years, and after practicing yoga in their store on Sundays, I just can't take it anymore. I have to make the pants, jacket, and tank mine! Now I know I am on a closet fast until April, but you better believe that come May 1st, I will be first in line with my wish list in hand. (But maybe one early purchase won't hurt, right?.)

Product Push: Apricot Scrub

When it comes to my skin routine, I believe that product lines are not a one size fits all. Therefore, I use products from various brands and price ranges. My brilliant dermatologist (who is also a professor at Stanford University) recommends St. Ives Apricot Scrub. It is the perfect recipe for removing dead skin in the winter and summer months. After using it twice a week, skin is left smooth and glowing. This is my number one "must have" beauty product. An added bonus is the price tag of $5. Pick it up at your local pharmacy, and uncover a new layer of beauty.

The Sweetness of Doing Nothing

IMG_1879

I challenge you to take a break today from all the noise and quiet your mind for one minute.

It always amazes me how incredibly hard this is to do. My mind is constantly moving 100 miles a minute, either planning for the future or reminiscing on the past. My focus needs to be on the present moment. Try to focus on nothing but the now, and you will see how hard it is to let go of "time."

Pretty Girl

I am rarely captivated by a person, but I just have to write about my friend Matea. She is such a natural beauty and has the sweetest personality. Her look is fun and fresh meets classic vintage. Matea can pull off a frilly dress or jeans . . . and she can rock bold makeup or nothing at all. She is the quintessential San Francisco beauty.

Weekly Rituals

Rituals, we all have them. Some call them routine, but I think that is such a drab description. Rituals come and go, but here are a few of my constants. Please share your rituals in the comment section.
  1. Sunday Bath. Every Sunday I take a bath, clear my head and relax for the upcoming week. I always include Epsom Bath Salts and Bumble's Sunday Shampoo.
  2. Nightly Read. To clam my thoughts before bed, I read. My latest focus is on being present, and Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth does just that.
  3. Yoga. Practicing yoga instills balance and strength all while quieting my mind. I practice yoga at least twice a week.
  4. Meditation. I just started meditating, and so far so good. Every night before I fall asleep, I clear my mind and put all my attention on the energy moving through my body. It is amazing how a little focus can make you feel the body's energy.
  5. Church. Sunday church always signals the end of a week and beginning of a new one. Jimmy and I have found a church with the best music, so every mass feels like a trip to the orchestra.

Flashback Friday: Brokedown Palace

{via}

I've been under the weather lately, so I have watched a lot of movies. And when I am sick, I am all about feeling nostalgic. Movies from the late 90s have been my theme, and this week I watched Brokedown Palace. A young Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale were amazing in this movie. Claire Danes was the staple actress of my youth, and she shines in this movie.

The CoffeeBook House

IMG_3086

This weekend I found a quaint used books store and coffee house. It has all the comforts of a cozy bookshop with the great aroma of coffee. Bringing in a used book equals a free coffee, and all the books can be read at the shop or purchased for a fair price. It is the perfect retreat for cold and dreary days. I think I shall work here one day.
