Food Friday: Pomegranate Juice

This past weekend, Jimmy and I picked and squeezed pomegranates at my family's farm. It is a tradition to head home this time of year and make this juice for jam. My uncle has an old-fashioned make-shift "juicer" that makes this process fun and a group event. We literally have designated stations for the family: the pickers, the washers, the sorters and the crusher. My uncle is the only crusher and he has it down to an art. Twenty gallons later, we popped open coronas and added a little pomegranate juice. It is a perfect way to end a great day.

Pomegranate juice facts:
(1) Contains three to four times the amount of antioxidants as green tea.
(2) Contains high levels of Vitamin C that boost the immune system.
(3) They are delish.

Step 1: Wash

Step 2: Gather

Step 3: Crush

Step 4: Juice!

  16. oh my goodness how neat is that! I would love to be able to go to a pomegranate farm. Being from Michigan I have gone to a variety of farms but we cant grow pomegranates so that's a dream I have is to get to see them growing at a farm and go to a cranberry bog.
