Take Me to Another Place in Time

"We drifted away like the leaves in the fall"

"One restless summer we found love growing wild" -Strawberry Wine

It is so funny how a melody can bring back a memory and take you to another place and time. This is exactly how I feel when I hear Deana Carter. Her songs are about love . . . whether it be a first love or the love of a friend. I vividly remember listening to her CD for hours while I scribbled my first name with my crush's last name on binder paper. I especially love reconnecting with Deana's classics Strawberry Wine and We Danced Anyway. They make me smile every time I listen to them.

It wasn't until recently when I started to really understand why my grandpa always told me to enjoy being young. There is something to be said for that time in your life full of firsts. Deana's music instantly takes me back to the great days of my youth.

What music artist takes you to another place in time?

  3. Songs that I sang in my high school choir concerts or that I associate strongly with special memories do this for me... Especially Ray Charles' version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

  4. So many artists and songs make me feel so nostalgic, but Strawberry Wine definitely does it for me, as well! She totally captures that first love feeling so well in that song . . . I have to be in the right mood to listen to it, though, cause it's so sad. :( I did sing it at karaoke recently--ha!

  10. I adore Strawberry Wine, the song I mean. I can feel a similar feeling when I listen to it too. Styx also take me to a different time. High school. My friends and I were obsessed and would listen to Styx in the car and sing wherever we went.

  11. It's so true how a song or a smell can instantly bring you back to a very vivid memory. This album reminds me of my Freshman/Sophomore years in college because my roommate played it on repeat and we all loved it! I had actually forgotten about it, but I'm going to download it to my ipod now that you've reminded me. I've recently decided I love country music again and have been downloading all the songs I listened to way back when. I think these are all signs that I'm getting old. Haha.

  13. aww so true... my parents always said the same thing 'enjoy your youth'... I guess when you're young you have nothing to compare it to so you take it for granted.... I must admit, all of that aside, I really do enjoy getting older. Those hard lessons in life that you learn when your young give you the wisdom and sense of stillness as you age.. I'm all for the wise stillness!
thanks for dropping by the other day too!

  18. when i worked at Lucky Kid (jeans) i helped deanna carter buy her little one some very expensive clothing. didn't know it was her until i checked her out. and then i embarrassed myself by saying "you were an adpi at UT".. duh she knows that.. but it was so pushed in my brain during my sorority days that it just blurted out. lol

  19. Ohhhhh...me too. When I saw "Deana Carter," Strawberry Wine immediately popped into my head. I don't even listen to country music anymore, but still have memories of belting this out in my car.
John Mayer's "Room for Squares" album came out when I was in high school and I always reminisce when I hear any song from that :)

Thanks for the wonderful flashbacks! I needed that today...
