The Greasy Spoon

Hole-in-the-wall diners are often referred to as greasy spoons. In order to qualify as a legitimate greasy spoon, a diner must (1) look suspicious, (2) have advertisements painted on the windows, and (3) serve up massive portions of delicious breakfast items. When out of town, I always scope out these neighborhood diners and was thrilled when I found Jack's this weekend. I ordered my typical hash browns and buttermilk pancakes and was not disappointed. No matter how hard I try, I can never replicate these delicious greasy spoon staples, but I thoroughly enjoy them on my occasional Saturday morning trips.

  1. I LOVE diners. Love them. And the food is always so ridiculously tasty, because I feel like I constantly end up at greasy spoons when I'm starving. And nothing is better than bacon and hashbrowns when you're hungry!

  6. This sounds like perfection to me. We have a little diner at the end of the street and I never tire of the breakfasts over there. I almost prefer them more to the ones I make (which is kind of sad!)

  7. OMG! Hashbrowns! I haven't had hashbrowns in ages. Believe it or not, we don't have diners down here, but luckily I had the chance to go to a few when I lived in California.

  8. YUM! Your order sounds just about right to me. Thank you for validating my theory that it's okay to order two starches and no protein! :)

  18. So true that they have to look suspicious! Haha. That made me laugh. Those pancakes look amazing right now. So I found a pair of mustard tights at Anthropologie yesterday and I cannot wait to wear them! My first thought is that I'm going to pair them with a grey sweater dress and booties. Hopefully an outfit post to come next week (Gabe's been working late every night this week, so I've temporarily lost my photographer). Haha.

  19. I've determined that the reason those foods taste so much better in the restaurants is b/c they cook the same items over and over and over in the same skillets or griddles. They just keep adding the flavors day after day. That's just my philosophy :)

There is nothing I love more than a big stack of pancakes. I won't lie either, I love the butter too! Mmmmmm, makes my mouth water.

    Happy Wednesday, Marcie!! Kisses! xo

  23. I absolutely love diners. There was a place called the Hamburg Inn in Iowa City and it not only served the most delicious breakfast, but it was standard stop for all politicians to dine at during the Iowa Caucuses. The walls are full of everyone worth watching in the iowa caucuses. it's quite the place!
