Around the World

On my antique and flea market trips, I am starting to notice that many vintage pieces are items I grew up with, and my latest find is the globe. Every autumn when school started, I pulled out my globe for my social studies class. I remember spinning it as fast as I could, closing my eyes, and putting my index finger on a country to make it stop. I would then ask my mother a thousand questions about the new country I "discovered" and promised to go there when I was older. At a flea market last weekend, I was so excited to find this slice of my childhood right in the middle of clothes and other clutter. I cleaned it up and it now has a home next to my old book collection. Admittedly, I did spin the globe for old times sake and it landed on India. Who knows, maybe this is how my next vacation location will be decided.

  10. What a great find. I've been keeping an eye out for a vintage globe for my office area which I'm currently trying to get decorated. Unofortunately we don't have many flea markets in this area but hopefully something will turn up at the thrift store.

Hope you have a great Monday!

  12. I love globes and wall maps! They're SUPER cute to decorate with.

When I was a kid, I used to cut up sticky notes and cover the names of capitals, countries, rivers, etc... on my globe to practice for my geography tests!

  13. I had a globe when I was little too! I miss it :(

I used to spin it and wherever it landed is where I'd end up living. Ahh, wish that were true!

  16. I love checking out the globe and dreaming about vacations to faraway places. What a great thing to bring back from a flea market. I still have my globe at my parent's house, so maybe I'll get it next time I'm home. We had a blast in Pismo! Thank you so much for all your suggestions. We didn't get to do much outside of the planned reunion activities, but we definitely want to try Giuseppe's next time we're up there. We did make it to the beach and it was really hot and perfect beach weather. Hope you had a great weekend!

  20. So nostalgic! Though not as fun as a spinning globe, I remember having to buy an atlas, a dictionary and a thesaurus every year for school (had to get the latest versions of each!). It's crazy how all these supplies are a thing of the past now :(

  23. I love globes! I definitely want to get one for my son's room... I suppose it's much nicer than a map on the wall? although I do like that look, too...

  25. I have had an odd obsession with geography for some time now. When I'm bored, I take geography quizzes online (don't judge me lol) Globes are awesome. I have a mini one on my desk at work, and when I'm having a stressful day {which feels like everyday anymore} I just sit there and spin it over and over. It really gets your mind going!
