Small Town California
When most people think of California, they think of Hollywood and the beach. The truth, however, is that a good portion of the state is comprised of farmland, and this weekend we went to a farm town where we enjoyed a small town holiday parade. Old brick buildings and American flags lined the streets, and Portuguese Festa queens' crowns sparking in the sunlight. We found a spot in the shade where we listened to the marching bands and watched horses and hay filled floats march down the street. I felt like I was thrown back a few decades to a time when people actually mingled with each other outside because everyone put away their cell phones and enjoyed the warm event filled day. I had a great time and am so glad there still are small town traditions left in this state.
