Going Girly

Wet Seal Skirt: $19
Milly Beach Dress: $195
Topshop Headband: $28
Dorothy Perkins Ring: $15
Miss Selfridge Headband: $24
Eight Sixty Tank: $59
Elizabeth and James Sandals: $225
Forever 21 Skirt: $25
Lavish Jewelry Bracelet: $130
Topshop Scarf: $36

Every once in a while, I like to put something on that is really girly. I've found that a single crocheted piece of clothing is an easy way to accomplish that perfect feminine feeling. Right now crochet clothing is in, and it isn't just for your grandma. As soon as I slip on a crocheted skirt or headband, I instantly feel soft and lovely. I just ordered this Forever 21 skirt and can't wait to wear it to our summer barbecue.

What do you think of crochet clothing?

Vintage City

If I could have been a teenager in any decade, it would have been the 1960s. I just love this decade's laid-back vibe. The one town that instantly takes me to this time is Santa Cruz, California. As soon as you drive into this beach city, you see old VW bugs and buses scattered all around town. Here are a few "retro" photos I took this weekend.

I couldn't leave town without a scoop of my favorite ice cream!

Sugar High

I really need to kick my bubblegum cigar habit.

No matter how hard I try to deny it, my mind is always on something sweet. You can imagine how happy I was this weekend when Jimmy and I stumbled upon a charming candy boutique. It was the ultimate sugar high. As soon as the door opened, we were greeted by a sugary sweet aroma, and I instantly felt like a kid again. Every space was covered with colorful candies from this decade and decades past. There were chocolate and gum walls and even a section dedicated to movie theater treats. I was most excited to see tin lunch pails and Wrigleys Doublemint gum! We had a great time soaking in the nostalgic feelings of our childhood while other children darted by, clearly immersed in theirs.

Charming old fashion soda bottles.

An entire section dedicated to movie theater candy.

Chocolate anyone?

Tin Lunch Pails!

Even the popcorn is sugary sweet!

Winning Weekend

I hope you have a great weekend filled with

Food Friday: Auntie's Cupcakes

My auntie is the baker of the family, and last week I made her cupcakes from scratch. I love this recipe because it is so easy. The cupcakes take about 10 minutes to prepare and 25 minutes to bake. The frosting is literally powdered sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. If I follow the recipe exactly, I get moist and delicious cupcakes every time.

Mix 2 cups flour and sugar, 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, salt, and vanilla, 3/4 cup 1 cup buttermilk, 2 eggs, and 1 cup of boiling hot water (add slowly toward end of mixing), and bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

I love the color of my mix master.

1 second it's powdered sugar . . .

Add 1/2 cube butter, vanilla, and 1/4 cup milk and it's frosting!

Sweet Engagement

I was captivated by these creative and beautiful engagement pictures taken of my college friend. I love that each picture illustrates how fun and in love this couple is. The amazing and talented San Francisco based photographer Sasha Gulish is truly an artist. Enjoy!

See by Chloe $235
Tory Burch $277
Christian Louboutin $595

I am always looking for an excuse to buy shoes. Every time I walk into a store, I beeline it for the shoe section because I am most confident there. I know what I like and can decide in 30 seconds if the latest trend is going to work for me. I am on my feet all week, so I usually wear flats. That said, I love a great heel with a dress, and I love wedges for the summer.

I was thrilled when Life is a Runway tagged me in Shoe Love. The rules are to list seven of my favorite shoes. I've decided to imagine that I was just given an unlimited budget to purchase seven pairs of shoes, but I couldn't stop so I picked nine! After looking at my list, I think it is clear I need a pair of Christian Louboutins (Jimmy, I hope you are reading).

My shoes will live here . . .

or here . . . .

These ladies are my go to fashion bloggers, and I'd love to see what is on their list.

Home Style

For as long as I can remember, my cousin has had an amazing home. She isn't a professional and has never taken a design class; she is just a natural at interior design. She knows the right mix of colors and textures to use in any space, large or small. She takes risks by mixing different types of interesting art and by using bold colors. A few weeks ago, I was visiting her in Los Angeles and had to take pictures of my favorite spaces. She lives in a bungalow by the water, and it embodies everything that is California laid back living.

Her sons' booties dipped in bronze.

Delicious homemade cakes!
