Trash the Dress

Wedding season is upon us, and so is this new trend called Trash the Dress. Today, women are opting out of saving their wedding dress in an air tight box for years and instead are trashing it! At first, I was shocked and scared by this idea, but the more I think about it the more I want to trash my dress! I would love to wear my dress one more time and have a fun photo shoot. Should I do it? Brides are doing everything from jumping in the ocean, to rolling around in mud!

Would you trash your dress?

  4. Hi Marcie - no no no!! This seems just wrong! But then I am old fashioned! There is no doubt that the photos capture this real attitude amongst the brides, so it must feel great! I still get my dress out every now and then though, would hate for it to be covered in paint! L x

  10. Wow, this looks really cool in the photo shoots, but I don't know if I could do it! I love the ones where they're in the water!

  11. ohhhh i don't know if i could do it!!!!! we should organize a blog your wedding dress day, how fun would that be? we could all showcase them...hmmm, something to think about!

  12. It looks so much fun but I don't think I will be able to do it :)

  13. I love all these pictures, Marcie! It looks really fun, but I couldn't do that to my dress! It just wouldn't feel right. Haha. I knew a few people who did this, but they bought a really cheap dress that looked similar to their own and trashed the cheap dress. Now that, I'd totally do!

  14. It looks way fun, but I feel as though I'd regret it later. Like if one of my daughters said, "Mama, I'm thinking of wearing your dress for my wedding." I think that would be awful if I was like, "Honey, I'm sorry, but my dress got ruined by mud," and then have to go into the details of what happened. :)

  15. there's an award for you to collect on my blog ;)

my dress is sitting wasting away, i'm thinking of selling it, but I could NEVER trash it!!

  18. haha this is a tough question. It looks like so much fun, but at the same time I'm hesitant. But I really love the idea of splashin' in water, it looks really fun, and romantic too.

  19. Oh my goodness! Such a cool idea (especially the splatter paint!) but I don't know if I could do it!

  20. I'm torn about the trend, I think you really can get some fantastic photos from a trash the dress shoot... but I sure would like to show my daughter my wedding dress one day. I'm sure she won't want to wear it, but I always liked being able to look at my mothers wedding dress growing up....

  21. Oh boy Marcie! I don't know if I could! I can see breaking it out for a fun photo shoot - but trash it? Yikes! Scary!!

  22. Wow - it would be such a breath of fresh air! Coveting it in an air tight box seems rather pointless to me, unless your saving it for your daughter.. Though idea of "trashing" the dress seems harsh - doing something fun with your husband and taking photos of it seems like a beautiful idea! On the other hand trashing dresses that come at such steep prices does give me an uneasy feeling! ahh! I'm torn, lol ♥ Great post though!!

  23. Oooohh fun!!! That's a great idea!!! You would have the photos to remember it by at least! I have had mine sitting in the closet for 4 years and it seems kind of silly! It's never too late to do this though I guess!!!

  24. wow this is so cool/different! great images as well. reminds me of a recent post i did where a guy took revenge on his ex wife's wedding dress for leaving him after 12 years...check it out! love your blog...

  25. No!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could never do that, the paint and the mud pics make me feel quite ill!!!!

    :)

  26. I just don't think I could do it!! With my luck I'd get amnesia and need to feel the dress in order to remember my husband, the day and our life together, and then end up living in oblivion without the memories!! (just the kind of day i'm having - don't mind me)

Interesting post!! I wonder who came up with this idea?

    ReplyDelete
  27. oh no i definitely would not! not that i have anything better to do with it. i got married last September and it's still hanging on my closet door.... :)

  28. this is a very interesting idea. i think i like it! haha i had the same reaction as you said...at first i was thinking, hmm i dont know, but now i think it would probably be kind of liberating. i dont know if i would go as far as the mud or paint. (in case you wanted to save your dress for you daughter or something) but the fountain/ocean idea is good. the first picture is my favorite. she looks so free :]

thanks for your comment on our blog!!

  29. Wow,would'nt have thought of doing it myself but they're enjoying themselves so why not? And it makes for some great photos.

  30. Wow - these are so awesome. Especially the ones with the paint, and of course the ocean ones! My sister recently got engaged, I should pass the idea along to her. Except I doubt she would be ok with this. :)

  31. That is so great! And you know what, it's so crazy, I JUST had a great idea for my wedding dress (and no, it isn't trashing it). I'm bidding on a Chanel hanger on ebay right now, and if I get it, I'm going to hang my wedding dress on it, and hang it in my bedroom! Okay, so the dress wasn't Chanel, but it's long and elegant and I think it would look so pretty on the hanger! So let's hope I win! XO! Why should it be hidden away in a box when I can enjoy it!

  33. I think it's an awesome thing to do, but I can not fathom spending thousands on a dress and then trashing it. If it were a dress found at the thrift store however, I'm all for it!

  34. I agree with you - at first I totally rejected the whole idea. Actually even felt it was against all reason, but like you the more I think about it the more I like the idea of only wearing ones wedding dress once.
I would not be able to trash it until after the reception though.. :)

    Liberating post!

  35. Love the whole idea. I have done this with a friend once. We made all kinds of colored cupcakes, and threw sno cones at hers. I hate to say this, the shoot was held on the day her divorce was final. Great pictures though. I saw one, where she was holding a glass of wine, spilled on the dress, with a who cares shrug and look on her face. Adorable! I am sending you an email, about Friday Favorites next week.

  36. love these images because they look like a lot of fun and very dynamic... have a nice one!

  37. I love this concept - mostly the water images. I figured if you dove into some water or a fountain you might have SOME damage to the dress but in the end you could send it to the dry cleaner (which most would do to preserve the dress anyway) and get it cleaned up and almost like new. You'd still have the dress and you'd still have awesome memories and an adorable photo shoot!

  38. I've never heard of this. I love the one of the girl pouring different colors of paint all over her dress.

  39. OMGosh, that is such a hard decision. I don't know if I would like to roll in mud in my gorgeous wedding gown. But jumping into the ocean or even the color splashing looks like fun. All of the photos you've gathered here kinda makes you wanna have a change of heart though. If you do go ahead with the idea, I can't wait to see your amazing photos.

  41. oh, and for the record, after being drycleaned, the dress looked brand new!

  42. lo, that is an awesome idea! I am sure it will be as memorable - if not more - than the wedding day itself!

  43. No trashing for me...I cut mine up though. ;) Made a baptism gown out of it that both my children wore. I am looking forward to passing it on to grandchildren someday.
